According to Insider, there have been approximately 1,600 layoffs in the tech sector so far in 2023.

The publication used information from “Layoffs.fyi,” a website that tracks layoffs that was set up during the pandemic by Roger Lee, a co-founder of Human Interest, a firm that assists small firms in setting up 401(k) plans.

According to the site’s tracker, 91 tech companies will have let 24,151 workers go in 2023. On the list are businesses like ShareChat, an Indian social media firm that fired 20% of its employees this month.

In the same month, Amazon announced that it will start laying off around 10,000 workers.

According to the Wall Street Journal, the pattern continued with layoff announcements from non-tech firms including Bed, Bath & Beyond and Goldman Sachs as well as companies like Coinbase. Approximately 18,000 further layoffs have been announced by Amazon for the upcoming year.
